Furniture customization in practice

We build every piece by hand from 100% solid wood. Nothing is mass-produced, and more than half of our orders include some degree of customization.

Ways to customize your furniture

Customization means a change to what is currently listed or advertised on our website. Start with the details that would make your selected piece work better for you.

Custom size furniture

Request a different length, width, depth, or height. Share the overall finished dimensions, including the top and trim, with units. Label any base-only measurements separately.

Custom furniture layouts

Ask about changes to drawers, doors, shelves, or seating arrangements. Tell us which parts you would like changed, added, or removed, and where they should go.

Custom furniture finishes

Request custom paint or stain, or choose raw, untreated wood with no finish applied. For painted colors, tell us whether you prefer Solid or Weathered. Explore our finishes.

Tops and overhangs

Request extended overhangs or changes to the top. Let us know if you plan to supply your own countertop so our team can review the details with you.

Crown and adjoining pieces

Request flush modifications to crown and trim, including changes for pieces that sit beside one another. Include the space measurements and a labeled photo when helpful.

Hardware

Request custom hardware, including installation of hardware you supply. Email us for current hardware photos, or describe your preferred hardware in your inquiry.

Interested in premium Oak construction? Ask for an email quote. Oak has its own stain options. Our team will confirm the available choices for your design.

Start with a VMW design

We modify our own furniture designs. We do not reproduce other companies’ furniture or build unrelated designs found online. Reference photos are welcome to explain your space, finish preferences, or specific changes to a VMW piece. Tell us which feature you want us to reference.

If the size or finish you want is already offered on the product page, you can select it there. For changes beyond those options, email us before ordering.

We regularly ship custom solid wood furniture over 100 inches coast to coast. For custom size furniture, include your requested dimensions and delivery ZIP code so we can review the design and shipping arrangements.

How furniture customization works

  1. Share your request. Include the VMW product name or link, requested dimensions with units, finish, changes, and delivery ZIP code. Mark any undecided detail “to be confirmed.”
  2. Confirm the details by email. Customer Service will review specifications, pricing, shipping, and timing. For custom furniture finishes, include the color name or reference you would like us to review.
  3. Review your order. Once the details are confirmed and you are ready to order, our team will provide your private payment link.

All communication about your custom order is handled by email. Our shared address, info@vintagemillwerks.com, is your point of contact from design discussions and order confirmation through your shipping notification. Keep your questions and follow-ups in the same email conversation.
